Mission
The Georgian Academy of Internal Medicine (GAIM) is an organization set up to support residents, physicians and colleagues across internal medicine and all of its subspecialties in Georgia. Our aim is to strengthen the medical community by sharing evidence-based academic material and knowledge, and by discussing clinical cases and new findings regularly — and to strengthen communication between specialists working in Georgia and outside its borders.
Supporting residents is one of GAIM's main goals. We know that residents are an irreplaceable and vital part of the country's health system: they put enormous effort into learning and working, and often do so in difficult conditions. GAIM's mission is to add to that effort — by creating a space that encourages professional growth, academic development and collaboration with colleagues.
Projects such as the Morning Report — an interactive conference in the American morning-report tradition — along with assessment and support for residents who excel, all serve the same purpose: to make the residency years a steadier and more rewarding experience, and to raise the quality of a resident's education and life.
Vision
We firmly believe that every physician, resident and colleague across medicine deserves decent working conditions, recognition and a collegial professional environment in which they can realise their full potential and improve people's quality of life.
We recognise that creating such an environment calls for deep, systemic change; what GAIM can do is strengthen the medical community as far as it is able.
GAIM's aim is to be a trusted academic partner — offering resources and opportunities that encourage the motivation to learn, innovative approaches and residents' professional development. We are ready to work with professionals inside the country and beyond, so that together we build a medical culture in Georgia founded on education and on support for growth.

History
GAIM was founded on 11 August 2025 by its founding board.
Today GAIM has more than 450 members — physicians, residents and medical students.
How GAIM is organised
GAIM is run by a seven-member board. Each board member leads one working team: academic, evaluation and quality, communications, legal, and operations.
We work as a core with a wider circle: a small core carries the day-to-day work, while the wider circle is the members who join individual projects.

What does the GAIM logo stand for?

The sunflower in the GAIM logo is more than an aesthetic symbol – it carries the philosophy of internal medicine and the values of GAIM.
The center – internal medicine
The center of the sunflower represents internal medicine as the shared foundation on which every subspecialty stands: a common language, a common logic and patient-centered thinking.
12 petals – 12 fields
Each petal of the sunflower stands for a subspecialty of internal medicine:
- Allergy and immunology
- Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology
- Geriatrics
- Infectious diseases
- Cardiology
- Nephrology
- Pulmonology, critical care and sleep medicine
- Rheumatology
- Sports medicine
- Hospice and palliative medicine
- Hematology and oncology
Internal medicine is diverse, yet all of its fields are closely intertwined.
Heliotropism
A sunflower always turns towards the light. This is what GAIM's core values express: a constant search for knowledge, continuous professional growth and stronger evidence-based medicine – all in the service of better patient care.
GAIM brings together residents, licensed physicians and other healthcare professionals around one shared goal: developing high-quality, evidence-based, modern and academic internal medicine.
Special thanks to the artist Noshrevan Darakhvelidze for working on the GAIM logo.
